HIGHLIGHTS
Russell won a silver medal at the 2009 Canada Games with Team Ontario, where she led her team with a .406 batting average, 13 hits, two homeruns and 11 runs batted in, and also placed 6th at the 2009 Canadian Midget Girls Championship. She went on to carry that momentum this Spring with the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans, where she was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year after posting a .313 batting average with 11 homeruns and 38 runs batted in. She was also among the Conference leaders in total bases [107] and assists [97].
PERSONAL
Russell is one of six players who joined Team Canada after impressing the coaching staff at two regional evaluation camps that were held in the early Summer of 2010. She is currently studying in Criminal Justice and would like to become a member of the RCMP once she has completed her degree.
MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION
Jill was also an outstanding a basketball and track and field athlete in high school, and was named Most Valuable Player in both those sports for five consecutive years. She was also named Athlete of the Year in grades 8, 9 and 12. |
