Terry Baytor

Terry Baytor, born in Montréal, Quebec, was widely recognized as one of the most successful softball coaches in the world. Terry began coaching at the age of 17 at the grass roots level and continued until his retirement 31 years later in 2001. Terry coached over 2000 games over his lifetime. He was involved as a National Team coach for 18 years. As Head Coach of Canada`s Men`s National Team, he led his teams to gold medals at the 1992 World Championship and the 1991, 1995 and 1999 Pan American Games. Terry also led the National Team to a World Championship Silver Medal in 1996 and was assistant coach for two Pan American Games Gold Medals in 1983 and 1987. Baytor is also well known for coaching highly successful club teams including the Canadian and ISC Champion Toronto Gators and the Tampa Bay Smokers. Baytor was a member of the Gators from 1993-1996, leading his team to gold at the Canadian Championships on three occasions, twice going undefeated. Terry has received many awards throughout his coaching career: In 1992 he received the Coaching Association of Canada "Coach of the Year" award. He was inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame in 1997 as a member of the 1983 Pan Am Men`s Team and in 2001, was inducted into the City of Brampton Hall of Fame. Terry`s #18 jersey was retired by Softball Canada in 2001. Baytor also participated in Softball Canada’s Coaching Program including significant contributions to the NCCP level 4 and 5 program. Terry remains actively involved in the National Team Program and is currently Chair of the Women`s National Team committee.
