The International Softball Federation lauched the "BackSoftball" campaign in 2007 to push for reinstatement at the 2016 Olympic Games, but the sport of softball was not chosen as one of the two sports to be included to the Olympic programme. However, the sport has garnered worldwide support and interest.
A record setting 197,139 fans attended the softball competition at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In 2008, over 180,000 fans were in attendance.
Softball Canada hosts 8 Canadian Fast Pitch Championships (Nationals) and 2 Slo-Pitch Championships rotated throughout Canada annually, involving over 140 teams and attracting close to 75,000 in-venue participants.
Close to 50,000 spectators attend the Senior Men`s Canadian Softball Championships to watch world class male Fast Pitch action at its best.
The Canada Cup - Women`s International Fast Pitch Event in Surrey, B.C. attracts over 110,000 spectators and participants each year.

187,000 viewers watched the second edition of the Men`s Slo-Pitch Border Battle between Canada and the United States in 2010 (TSN).
