Softball Canada is pleased to announce the list of thirty-two (32) athletes who have been invited to attend a selection camp and a series of exhibition games in Kitchener, ON and Dorchester, ON in May to determine the final rosters for Team Canada and the Team Canada Selects Men’s Slo-Pitch teams.

Softball Canada is pleased to announce a series of Regional Identification Camps for the Junior and Senior Women's National Team programs in 2014 in preparation for the 2014 ISF Senior Women’s World Championship and the 2015 ISF Junior Women’s World Championship. The camps will take place in Brampton, ON, Cloverdale, BC and Saskatoon, SK.

Softball Canada's National Teams will be competing in various events in 2014, including the 2014 ISF Junior Men's World Championship in Whitehorse, YT, the 2014 ISF Women's World Championship in Haarlem, NED and the 2014 Men's Pan American Championship in Parana, ARG. Nominations for athletes, coaches, officials, builders and teams for induction into Softball Canada’s Hall of Fame are being accepted until April 1, 2014. A maximum of five (5) new members will be chosen to be inducted on Saturday, November 15th during Softball Canada’s Annual General Meeting in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

The Coaching Association of Canada is engaging in an international research initiative with Spain and the UK in the hopes of presenting the findings at the International Working Group for Women in Sport in June 2014. The topic of the research is the psychosocial barriers to female participation in sport as referees (umpires) and coaches. 

The RBC Learn to Play Project will provide grants to local organizations and communities in support of building the physical literacy of Canada’s kids and youth. RBC will award a total of $750,000 each year in grants. Softball Canada’s Learn to Play Program and CANpitch Program are eligible programs for these grants.

Softball Canada is pleased to announce a new section on our website, this being the “Umpire Toolbox” section. It will include educational information for all umpires to access. Currently, just posted are the ISF Field Mechanics 1 – 4 Umpire Systems. These will replace and be used instead of the previous Softball Canada Umpire Systems.

Softball Canada is pleased to announce the list of umpires who have nominated as Umpire in Chief and Deputy Umpire in Chief for the 2014 Canadian Championships.

Angela Ballantyne, our Manager – Domestic Programming, will be off on Maternity Leave beginning early March. It’s Angela and Ryan’s second child and we join them in the excitement. Angela will be taking the year off to be with their child and we look forward to welcoming her back next spring.

To fill Angela’s very capable shoes we have hired Donna Ringrose, who started on February 24th to get up to speed on Angela’s many responsibilities, including CANpitch, Learn to Play, Triple Play and other initiatives. Donna is a bilingual graduate of Concordia University with a BSc Exercise Science / Kinesiology and also has a Graduate Degree in Business Administration from Concordia. She’s enjoyed playing softball since her childhood, along with a number of other sports.

Softball Canada is planning on adding a special Masters Division to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Senior Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship from August 28-31, 2014 in Charlottetown, PEI.
