Paco Reyes Cup - Canada vs. Puerto Rico

  2013pacoreyescup.png(Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) The Canadian Senior Women's National Team opened the Francisco "Paco" Reyes Cup with a 7-1 win over Puerto Rico. Canada opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning when Heather Ebert (Rosthern, SK) delivered a bases clearing double. Puerto Rico responded with a run in te top of the second, but Canada added two more to its total in the bottom of the third on a solo homerun by Jen Yee (North Delta, BC) and another on an error. Erika Polidori (Brantford, ON) then hit a two-run single in the sixth to complete the scoring.

Jenna Caira (Toronto, ON) earned the win in the pitcher's circle for Canada, allowing one run on five hits and two strikeouts in four innings pitched. Marina Demore (Richmond, BC) pitched three innings of scoreless relief, allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout. Other Canadian players who registered a hit are Joey Lye (Toronto, ON), Victoria Hayward (Toronto, ON), Caitlin Lever (Buffalo, NY) and Vicky Rumph (Mount Forest, ON).

Canada will be back in action against Cuba at 5:00pm EDT on Monday.
