(Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) The Canadian Senior Women's National Team split a pair of games at the Francisco "Paco" Reyes Cup on Tuesday, defeating Argentina 11-1 before losing 11-5 to the United States. In the first game against Argentina, Canada broke a 1-1 tie by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the second inning, taking advantage of three errors and a base clearing double by Sara Hopwood (Surrey, BC). Canada added two runs the following inning and one in the fourth on an RBI single by Larissa Franklin (Maple Ridge, BC) to end the game on the run rule.
Marina Demore (Richmond, BC) earned the win in the pitcher's circle, allowing one run on three hits and a walk with one strikeout. Jenna Caira (Toronto, ON) pitched one inning of hitless relief. At the plate, Victoria Hayward (Toronto, ON) and Franklin each registered two hits, with Erika Polidori (Brantford, ON), Kelsey Haberl (Burnaby, BC) and Hopwood each adding one.

In the second game against the United States,Team Canada jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Polidori. However, the United States responded with six runs in the top of the third, including three walks with the bases loaded. Canada got one of those runs back on a sacrifice fly by Jen Yee (North Delta, BC) in the bottom of the third, and scored another on an RBI double by Hayward to cut the lead to 6-4. USA scored twice in the top of the sixth with Canada scoring one on a single by Yee in the bottom of the frame, but the Americans put the game away by adding three runs in the seventh for the 11-5 win.
Sara Plourde (Fredericton, NB) started the game for Canada, allowing four runs - three earned - on no hits, issuing four walks and striking out four. Jocelyn Cater (Delta, BC) pitched three innings and a third of relief, yielding two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Demore pitched the last one and two thirds innings, allowing five runs on five hits. Jenny Gilbert (Saskatoon, SK) and Megan Timpf (Port Dover, ON) each had two hits for Canada, with Caitlin Lever (Buffalo, NY), Vicky Rumph (Mount Forest, ON), Hayward, Yee and Polidori each chipping in with one.
