Amending the Official Softball Rules
A Rules Forum is held every two years (even numbered years) in conjunction with the Softball Canada Congress in November. Each P/T Association is entitled to have three delegates present at the Rules Forum but only one of the three delegates is entitled to vote on rule change proposals. A two-thirds majority vote of the P/T Associations is required to approve a rule change.
The Rules Forum is chaired by a member of Softball Canada's Board of Directors. The Chairman does not have a vote at the Rules Forum. Also present (non-voting) at the forum are: an additional Board member and a staff member to record the votes and amendments, plus three members of the National Officials Development Committee to provide rule clarifications as requested.
The call for playing rule change submissions is circulated the beginning of August and the deadline for rule change proposals is October 1st (even numbered years). The proposals are then collated and re-circulated for review prior to the Rules Forum.
