Facts on Softball in Canada

Women's Softball was an Olympic Medal Sport from 1996 to 2008, with Canada having qualified and competed at the 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympic Games. With the sport now out of the Olympic Games, the International Softball Federation holds World Championships every two years in all categories (Men and Women, Junior and Senior).

In 2007, The International Softball Federation lauched the "BackSoftball" campaign to push for reinstatement at the 2016 Olympic Games, but the sport of softball was not chosen as one of the two sports to be included to the Olympic programme. In 2013, the International Softball Federation (ISF) and International Baseball Federation (IBAF) merged to form the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) in order to join forces in an effort to be added to the programme of the 2020 Olympic Games, and launched the "Play Ball 2020" campaign.

A record setting 197,139 fans attended the softball competition at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In 2008, over 180,000 fans were in attendance.

Softball Canada hosts eight Canadian Fast Pitch Championships (Nationals) and two Slo-Pitch Championships rotated throughout Canada annually, involving over 140 teams and attracting close to 75,000 in-venue participants.

Close to 50,000 spectators attend the Senior Men`s Canadian Softball Championships to watch world class male Fast Pitch action at its best.

The Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship (formerly known as the Canada Cup) in Surrey, B.C. attracts over 110,000 spectators and participants each year.

  • Slo-Pitch Program 
  • Programs for Coaches and Umpires. 

Canada's National Team Athletes are young, talented and aspiring role models ranging in ages from 17 years to 40 years.
