WNT Athlete Pool, Prospects and Camps

Thursday, December 23, 2010

*The previous news item posted on Friday, December 17 incorrectly identified the Athlete Pool as the 2011 Athlete Pool. We apologize for the confusion and have clarified it in this document.

(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada has released a list of players who have been identified for the Women's Athlete Pool as of December 23, 2010. This list provides a current snapshot of the Women’s National Team program, and it is important to note that the Head Coach can add and remove players from this pool at all times.

In addition to the athlete pool, Softball Canada has also identified a Top 27 Prospects list based on Evaluation Camps held in 2009 and 2010, as well as scouting at various tournaments and Canadian Championships.

“The Top 27 Prospects List recognizes athletes who have attended National Team camps over the past two years or have been identified as having the potential to play at the international level” stated Women’s National Team Had Coach, Mark Smith. “However, we would encourage any athletes born in 1991 or earlier who are interested in trying out for the Senior Women’s National Team to register to attend one of our regional Evaluation Camps in June of 2011. We are always looking for talent.”

A new Athlete Pool will be produced as a result of next summer's selection process, which will include two regional Evaluation Camps in Brampton, ON (June 16-19, 2011) and Surrey, BC (June 25-28, 2011). All players who are interested in trying out for the Women’s National Team are encouraged to register for these Evaluation Camps. Information regarding these camps can be found at the following link: http://www.softball.ca/display_news.asp?newsid=844
