U16 Exhibition GameSaturday, August 08, 2009 (Prague, Czech Republic) The Canadian U16 Womens National Team played their first game as a team to a 5-5 tie yesterday in exhibition action against the Czech Republic. The U16 team, who will be competing at the Easton Foundation Youth World Cup beginning on Monday August 10th, got off to a slow start in the exhibition game allowing the host team to take an early lead in the bottom of the first. However, Canada bounced back in the third with a leadoff single by Tessa Loewen (Abbotsford, BC). Loewen stole second base and scored on a bunt by Olivia Zwick (Surrey, BC) that resulted in an error. The Czech team bounced back an inning later but was not to be outdone by the Canadian squad. The red and white scored again in the fifth as Loewen walked, stole second and was brought in to score on a double by Jennifer Gilbert (McKinney, Texas). Canada evened the score with runs in the sixth and seventh innings which saw triples by Miranda Castiglione (Brampton, ON), Kristy Noble (Uxbridge, ON) and Tarah Ettinger (Plainfield, Illinois). Hits were recorded by Tessa Loewen (2 hits), Tarah Ettinger (2 triples), Shannon Davidson (Whitby, ON), Miranda Castiglione, Kristy Noble, Jennifer Gilbert, Renee Helmer (Oakville, ON) and Melissa Palmer (Mascouche, QC). Karissa Hovinga (La Vista, Nebraska), Shanna Wilson (Peterborough, ON), Jaycee Affeldt (Maple Ridge, BC) and Olivia Zwick all saw time in the pitchers circle for Canada.
