Border Battle Team - Exhibition #2

Friday, July 17, 2009

(Oklahoma City, OK) – Canadian Slo-Pitch team that will play in the Men’s Slo-Pitch Border Battle on Saturday (3:00pm CDT) defeated West Oak Production Services, the third ranked team in the state of Oklahoma, by a score of 31-20 before losing 17-1 to the United States National Team to improve their exhibition record to 2-1. It was a very hot and cold day for the Canadians, who were able to produce 31 runs in the first game before going cold against the United States.

In the first game, Shawn Wallace (Grande Prairie, AB) went four-for-five at the plate with three homeruns, while Brian Higginbotham (Orleans, ON) also had four hits and hit two long balls. Alain Blais (Maple, ON) played spectacular defence and also contributed two hits as Canada cruised to victory.

In the game against the USA National Team, the bats went collectively very cold as the Canadian hitters were gripping the bat too tight and seemed very nervous. Led by the very best professional Slo-Pitch players in their country, the United States powered their way to a 17-1 win. There weren’t many highlights for Canada, but they will certainly learn from this game when they take on the United States in the Border Battle which will take place later today. The team is still preparing for the big game, which can be seen on TSN at 4:00pm EDT on Sunday, July 19th.
