Border Battle Team - Exhibition ResultsThursday, July 16, 2009 (Oklahoma City, OK) The Canadian Slo-Pitch team that will play in the Mens Slo-Pitch Border Battle on Saturday (3:00pm CDT) edged a local club team called All-Star Plumbing 27-26 when Jeff Falardeau (Welland, ON) hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game was played in front of a good crowd on one of ASA Stadiums alternate fields, as KFC World Cup of Softball 4 games were being played on the main diamond. Canada was in control throughout most of the game, but All-Star Plumbing used up its 10 homerun limit early to take a lead. In the sixth inning, Canada was down by three runs but had six homeruns left under their limit, and the Canadian bats came alive by quickly hitting three homeruns (one was a two-run homerun) to take a one run lead into the seventh. After All-Star Plumbing tied the game 26-26 in the top of the seventh, Falardeau smashed his walk-off homerun. The Canadian Team hit eight homeruns in the game. Dave Boldt (St. Thomas, ON) and Jeff Falardeau each went five-for-five, while Brian Higginbotham (Orleans, ON) and Shawn Wallace (Grande Prairie, AB) both went four-for-four with a walk and a homerun. Francois Henry (St-Hyacinthe, QC) and Todd Cadenhead (Vaughn, ON) each cracked two homeruns for Canada, while Tim Bentley (Chatham, ON) also smashed a homerun. The Canadian team will play a doubleheader this afternoon against another local all-star team and the United States National Team. The players and staff are very excited about the Border Battle coming up tomorrow, which will be aired on TSN at 4:00pm EDT on Sunday, July 19th. Gilles LeBlanc |
