Softball Canada Names 2009 Women’s Youth World Cup Team

(Ottawa, ON) – Softball Canada is very pleased to announce the list of seventeen (17) female players who have been selected to represent Canada at the Easton Foundation Youth World Cup, which will take place in Prague, Czech Republic from August 10th to 16th, 2009. The Easton Foundation Youth World Cup will feature the very best 16 year old players from twelve (12) countries, which includes Canada, China, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Russia, South Africa, Venezuela and Zimbabwe. Each country is also allowed to have two 17 year old players on their roster.

Junior Women’s National Team Head Coach Tony Foti (Winnipeg, MB) will lead the team into Prague, while Glenn Boles (St. Catharines, ON) and Shan McDonald (Scarborough, ON) will serve as assistant coaches. Two-time Olympian Alison Bradley (Pinkerton, ON) will serve as the Team Manager.

“We are very excited with the group of young ladies we have selected for the Easton Foundation Youth Softball World Cup” stated Foti. “Traveling to Prague will be a unique experience for the team and will be a great introduction to international softball for this young group of athletes.”

The team was selected from three regional Evaluation Camps that were held in Oakville, Ontario, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Surrey, BC over the past month.
