Men's Pan Am Championship - Game 7

(Medellin, Colombia) The Canadian Men`s National Team (7-0) defeated Mexico (5-2) by a score of 6-2 to remain undefeated at the Pan American Championship. Mexico struck first in the bottom of the second inning with a solo homerun. Team Canada took the lead in the top of the fourth as Stephen Mullaley (Freshwater, NL) walked and came home on a two-run homerun to right-center field by Jeff Ellsworth (St. Lawrence, PEI).
The red and white added to its lead in the fifth with two more runs. Blair Ezekiel (Harbour Main, NL) was hit by a pitch, advanced to second base on a passed ball, took third on a groundout by Jason Sanford (Durham, NS) and scored on an infield single by Ellsworth. Mathieu Roy (St-Gervais, QC) followed with a walk, advanced to second on a ground out and eventually scored on a passed ball.
Canada scored one more in the sixth and added another in the seventh. Jason Hill (St. John’s, NL) stroked a one-out single in the sixth and was replaced by pinch runner Tyson Barkman (Abbotsford, BC). Barkman advanced to second on a passed ball, then to third on a groundout and scored on another passed ball. In the seventh, Roy singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Horn (Waterloo, ON), and scored on a single by Mark Johnson (Glencoe, ON) to round out the scoring.
Hill went the distance in the pitcher’s circle for Canada, allowing three hits (including two solo homeruns), no walks and struck out 13 to earn the victory. Canada now plays Venezuela (6-1) at 2:00pm CDT.
